The project addresses the dearth in Sudan of consistent sources of news that are uncensored by government
officials and that can be readily and regularly accessed by individuals who do not own smartphones, as well as
by Sudanese citizens experiencing a wi-fi internet shutdown. It is a media phone app that will deliver up to 2
minute and 20 second news pieces to any type of phone that can receive calls.
This project's aim is to bring news to the populations in Sudan who do not have access to the internet. It
works with a phone, XML (extensible markup language) code, an API (Application Programming Interface), digital
media files (mp3, wav, etc), and a phone number. API service providers sell numbers that can work as local
numbers in Sudan. A number with a Sudanese country code can be bought from an API and then be called by
someone in Sudan who, soon after dialIng, can hear a piece of audio news.
